Kitkat? Really? Google Should Know Better

The next version of android, 4.4, was widely rumored to be called Key Lime Pie, in line with Google’s dessert theme names.  However, the search giant has decided to go with something that more people have experienced, apparently.   As director of Android partnerships John Lagerling  stated, “very few people actually know the taste of a key lime pie” .

Supposedly this is not a money-making deal for Google, but there is a promotional effort involving free Nexus 7′s or Playstore credit in certain Kitkat packages.  Google has already put up a Kitkat android at it’s Mountain View, CA headquarters.

So what to expect from the new OS?  It’s likely that Google is looking to release a smartwatch soon, and Kitkat could be a system to run on many more devices than the previous android versions.  Just as ICS brought together phones and tablets, Kitkat could add more devices to the mix.  Google has been pretty tight-lipped about any specific changes, though.

So what do you think of the new name?  Personally, I think it’s terrible.  Google should have stuck to their previous naming method.  Promoting Kitkats just doesn’t feel right to me.
