Galaxy Note III Smartphone May Be the Most Powerful Tablet

There are lots of rumors swirling around Samsung’s next flagship smartphone, The Galaxy Note III.  The Mobile World Congress begins on February 24th in Spain, and hopefully it will be unveiled then.  Until it is officially introduced, the specifications are only guesses, but educated ones.  First up is it’s large size, 6.3″ of Super AMOLED Plus Full HD screen.  That’s quite a handful for a phone, but when the 5.5″ Note II came out, it sold very well, proving users don’t mind the larger size.  Driving that screen should be an Exynos Octa 5 cpu, using twin quad-core structure-one powerful one for intensive computing, a second less power-hungry one for more mundane tasks.

Some of the other rumored specs, if true, will have the Note III setting a new bar for smartphones.  3 or 4gb ram, 128gb onboard storage, and a 13mp rear camera are way ahead of the competition .  Multitasking is supposed to be enhanced, and the 4500-5000mah battery is very hefty.  At 9mm, it is comparable in thickness to many full-size tablets, but also to many existing smartphones, so that’s not a deal-breaker.

Another interesting feature is said to be touchless gestures.  Bascially the phone can sense your finger, or the included stylus, while it’s above the screen.  Similar to the mouse pointer on a computer, as you move over items, some information will be displayed.  Note II has a limited version of this already, when placing your hand over the screen will show notifications.  One rumor even has the Note III debuting Android 5.0, but that is probably wishful thinking.

Samsung continues to blur the line between phone and tablet with it’s Note line.  Are phablets the wave of the future?  At some point, a phablet gets too big to be really portable as a phone.  but where is that line?  Obviously not 5.5″, and probably not 6.3″.
