World’s Biggest “Tablet”

A Turkish company, Ardic, has come up with quite a unique idea. While most companies are trending towards smaller tablets, Ardic decided to go in the opposite direction. The result is a 65-inch tablet. Now, it really isn’t a separate tablet, to be honest. What the company has done, is connect a ten-inch tablet to a 65 inch LCD. However, it is not just displaying the 1080P HDMI output. The ten-inch tablet is controlled through the larger display.  The screen is touch sensitive, and the first version has support for basic gestures, like pinch to zoom. Plans are being made to increase the number of touch sensors to support multi-touch gestures.

The 10-inch tablet is powered by an Nvidia dual-core processor, and runs Honeycomb.  It connects to the larger screen through a docking station, but the company plans to have future versions connect wirelessly.  The obvious question is, why do this at all?  Well, the plan is to market this to educational institutions and commercial industries, to replace smart boards.  With the screen available in multiple sizes, and eventually powered by a wireless device-either smartphone or tablet-this could be a very powerful teaching tool, as well as being useful in the business market for presentations, collaborative meetings, etc.  Users can carry around the information they need on a mobile device, yet easily use this large-screen display when necessary.  Since tablets are slowly becoming more common in schools, this would be a good way for a teacher to interact with their entire class at once.  There are many potential uses for this technology, so expect to hear more from Ardic in the future.

Four Winds deals with interactive signs, a totally unrelated field. This technology has potential to go far beyond what is being done now, with the ability for multiple users to interact with information together on a large screen, then save that info and take it with them.
