Hi,
I just ordered my Vega and i'm planning on updating it when it arrives.
I've been browsing this forum for the last hour and I'm more confused by the minute.
Is it possible someone could just put together a short post of what software and firmware files are needed to
make an out-of-the-box vega in to a working vegacomb 3.2 ?
Links would be handy too if possible.
For those of us who haven't followed development from the beginning this thread is not that obvious.
Thanks
Mark.
I thought the first post of the "Vegacomb, Moddedstock Installation Guide" thread was pretty clear.... screenshots, links and all.
then's its the same procedure for HoneyIce 3.2.4, 3.2.5 (and 3.2.6 once it's ready) - links are in the first post of the HoneyIce thread.
You don't need to wade through all the follow-on discussions.
There's also a couple of Vids on YouTube for VegaComb 8.1 that you can look at.

Yes... it's a bit like putting together a jigsaw, with bits and pieces strewn though the various threads here on TR.
So here goes with my WalkThru..
(Apologies if I have skated over the obscure at the expense of the obvious - writing this, I now have a new found respect for the writers of instruction manuals!)
****************
The first thing you need are drivers to interface your Vega to your PC...
Go here for the drivers Advent | Vega Internet tablet and while you're there, you might as well grab a copy of the official STOCKROM (You won't need it for this, but it's always usefull to have, should you ever wish to return your Vega back to it's factory gate condition).
From TR...
Download MODDEDSTOCK V2
Download VegaComb Build9n. (VegaComb_HC3.2_Build9n.zip)
Download VegaComb (VegaComb_HC3.2_Build9n_update3.zip)
Install the drivers on your PC.
Connect your Vega to your PC and copy Build9n to your SD card as well as update 3n... (the second two ZIP files as detailed above)
With this done, you now need to boot the Vega into recovery...
Power your Vega down by pressing the POWERBUTTON for 6 seconds.
With the Vega plugged into your PC (via USB) and plugged into the mains, perform the following key sequence on your Vega...
Press the BACKBUTTON and hold for 2 seconds, still holding the BACKBUTTON, press the POWERBUTTON and hold for 2 seconds, release and continue to hold the BACKBUTTON for a further 2 seconds. If done correctly your PC will 'ping' the "Found New Hardware" sound.
On your PC double click STOCKMOD V2 - this will initiate the nvFlashing of a modified version of the STOCKROM, resecting the SYSTEM/DATA partitions so that VegaComb will fit...
Upon completion, your Vega won't look all that different, but there will be three crucial differences...
1) It will be ROOTED.
2) The SYSTEM partition will now be big enough to accomodate VegaComb.
3) ClockWorkMod will have been installed.
And it's with CWM that we now concern ourselves with...
Find RECOVERY in APPS and boot into CWM recovery... the touch screen doesn't work here... you navigate the menu via the VOLUME KEYS, (up and down) with the POWERBUTTON to select an option, and the BACKBUTTON to cancel and go back to the previous menu.
The first thing you need to do is perform a COMPLETE WIPE...
...using the VOL +/- keys to navigate to WIPE/DATA FACTORY RESET ... select this via the POWERBUTTON and confirm via the POWERBUTTON
Do likewise with WIPE CACHE PARTITION
Do likewise with WIPE DALVIK CACHE (Found in ADVANCED)
** Now to flash VegaComb... **
Still in CWM recovery, select "install ZIP from SDCARD", and then select "chose ZIP from SD card" and navigate to the files you copied to your SD card earlier... namely;
VegaComb_HC3.2_Build9n.zip
&
VegaComb_HC3.2_Build9n_update3.zip
Flash them both, one after another...
Reboot to system...
...hopefully... into VegaComb ...
**********
To summarize...
nvFlash STOCKMOD from your PC
Full wipe
CWM flash VegaComb_HC3.2_Build9n.zip from your SD card
CWM flash VegaComb_HC3.2_Build9n_update3.zip from your SD card
Hope that clarifies things...
Take a look here
how to install vegacomb 3.2 - YouTube and
How to Update a Viewsonic Viewpad 10s (+Advent Vega) to Vegacomb (Honeycomb)3.2 - YouTube
for further instruction...
HONEYICE builds on VegaComb - http://tabletroms.com/forums/vega-ro...honey-ice.html .
------------------------------------
Right... that's the best I can do for a WalkThru... hope it helps and gives you some pointers in the right direction.

Hi GedBlake,
Thank you very very much for writing this guide - my OH has bought me a Vega for Xmas and I'll be updating it to VegaComb when I get it (Xmas Day...) so to have a step-by-step plan on what to do, when, and with what, is fantastic. Thanks again!
One question - I notice on the Moddedstock Installation Guide, in the section marked 'Drivers:', that AUDI and VegaTools are used to uninstall Nvidia devices. On your guide, it's not mentioned - is it a necessary step, or do I not need to worry about it?
Again, your help is warmly appreciated and I am very grateful for what you have written already. Can't wait to get my Vega and enjoy VegaComb!
Joe
Well done, clear and concise.
GedBlake (11-23-2011)
VegaTools is used to remove any existing drivers you may have (via USBDeview) and AUDI contains the same drivers that you can download from Advent | Vega Internet tablet - link in GedBlake's post above.
If your Vega hasn't yet arrived, you won't have anything to uninstall....
(EDIT: as an aside I've never quite understood why there's a separate requirement to download AUDI since it's included in VegaTools anyway)
