    Question Root Issue

Although we do have root access, it does still have an issue. Using the modified boot.img does give us r/w access to /system and /system/xbin, but if you use a tool like Root Explorer to change the access to r/o, you can not change it back to r/w. The root directory (/) will change back and forth with no issues. Now, if I load QtADB up on my PC, I have another issue. My USB port will disconnect and reconnect constantly. If I flash back to the stock boot.img file, I no longer have r/w access to root or /system or /system/xbin and can not change them. All in Superuser looks fine. If I tell it to forget an app that has su privlages and load that app, su again will ask if it should give privlages to the app. If I select allow, it adds the app back to Superuser, but I still cannot change the r/w access rights for the directories. With the stock boot.img I do not get the constant connects and disconnects in QtADB. As a matter of fact QtADB works quite well.

I am hoping that DJ_Steve can take a look at the edits he made to the boot.img file to make it have root access to /system and /system/xbin and see if there is any reason for the ability to change the access back to read only and not back to read/write. Also see if he can take a look at the connect/disconnect issue. The latter is a small issue. I can quit using QtADB, but it would be nice to be able to use it.

With the root access working correctly, we should be able to change access to the directories no matter what ther state and if we change the state, we should be able to change them back. Thanks in advance.

This issue is not yet solved. What permissions should they be set, to 0755? If so, that is what they are set to and I still have this issue. Thanks.

Issue is not quite resolved. The workaround is still the boot.img with forced r/w mounting.
This is appearing to be an issue with hardware, that the system partition can not be mounted r/w after boot.
We are still working on it.

Try 06755 on su and 755 on the busybox.

busybox and su have correct permissions.
The issue is that root explorer, see system as r/w. Then allows you to remount as r/o. But you can not remount back to r/w.
I'm attempting to do it manually:
    mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p3 /system
    returns:
    Mount: Operation not permitted
    dmesg:
    EXT4-fs (mmcblk0p3): re-mounted. Opts: (null)
A reboot is required to get back to rw permissions.

Hmmm, thinking about buying one to help you all work on it. Not sure how much I can offer, but I can try. Maybe take it back when I'm done.

Did when I returned my non-booting xoom on release day. :-) If I like it I might keep it, but I do have two Tegra2 tablets.

I can't say for other tablets, but I'm thoroughly enjoying the thrive. Just wishing I could have a different OS now.. android is feeling smooth and everything, just not 100% tablet ready... does that make sense? maybe with 2.3 it'll feel better, but I think if I got a virtual machine or something running I could do something more?
