Have you all tried taking the xoom root instructions minus the flashing of the xoom kernel? Is the device fast boot? Can you unlock fast boot? Then can you adb the files to it? Dont fastboot flash the image. Only use adb to push the su files.

Warning: I do not have this device and this is just based off of guessing..... I would download this file and rename it with the same name as the ota manual update. Place it on your device and see if it will read it and flash the su files. I don't know if your device will check for a signature or not and if it does it will just abort. If you do have signature checking enabled, see if you can fastboot oem unlock your device following the guide here.

^ File deleted as it will not work from what I understand.

did you guys try out the "SuperOneClick" solution? (uses rageagainstthecage)

if the device is not protected like acer a500, you can use fastboot to get root?
if you got fastboot working, you can flash an alternate recovery.img? using acer a500 base, you can simply modify its /etc/fstab and then use it on thrive? shouldnt be hard to do? thats what was done initially on a500, before thor2000ro did a real compile of it.. of course you still need thrive's original kernel here..

but i think thor2000ro recovery is good too although it runs "itsmagic" which you cannot use on thrive, but rename it and that should do it.

Guys apprieciate all the help you have been trying to give us Thrive owners. As for fastboot, the Thrive does have this, but we do not have fast boot drivres. ADB does not work under fastboot. Funny, the fastboot commands work though. I am not too up on this, so I may say something dumb. I have found I can put the Thrive into recovery and get ADB to talk to it, but it still requires root to do any changes. This does not unlock the system to root. Thanks again. Hope this info may shed some light.

Have you tried the xoom drivers so that you can issue the fastboot oem unlock command?

Team, some of may not have the device but we can work with these guys to make this happen. Who wants to make a little history and piss off Toshiba? We need community members willing to test and provide information. Must have some technical skills and be able to follow directions. et me know if you are up for it. Also, people with bad recoveries are great candidates.
