    Root for 4.1.1

I just bought one of these for my brother, with the expectation it would have ICS and come rooted. Well, it shipped with JB 4.1.1, and no google play. I installed amazon appstore, which should hold him over for now, but my inner techgeek wants it rooted so I can get rid of VL's annoying UI and get google play installed. I installed a root checker, which says it was rooted, but an install of superuser and titanium backup say otherwise. Did anyone figure out how to root this baby yet?

Did you install busybox? The su apps require that as well.
In fire and EMS? Check the Play Store for my current apps Code Log and Pumper calc.

Any busybox installer I try says no root access =/

Edit: Re-tried checking root access with root check pro, and it says no root. Previous attempt that said there was root access was from Root checker via amazon appstore

Do you try using adb instead of installing it from the Play Store?

I sideloaded an apk, I can't install from the playstore since it isn't rooted and comes without said play store

edit: not sure what you mean by using adb, I know what it is but not what you mean by if i used that instead

Sideloading or installing from the Play Store are some what synonymous here.

I mean have you tried pushing busybox and then symlinking through ADB?

No, I haven't... how would I go about doing that? I know I would have to push through command lines, but no clue how to start or symlink through ADB. Sorry, I'm still new to hacking android =)

You can look at this site to give you an idea. Of course you have to have adb working on your PC as well. Should be able to do that via Windows or Linux with instructions from a Google search.

Wanted to throw out that it didn't for me, it told me to buy the premium version and I'm too cheap to spend money on something that I can try to do myself.
