    Cool How to Root Nook Color

    I recently rooted my nook color and finding all the steps and needed downloads was a little difficult. I thought this would help me just as much as you...

    What you need.

    ==The hardware==
    • Nook Color
    • A PC or laptop with a MicroSD card reader or a SD card to MicroSD card adapter.
    • MicroSD card. I used a 2GB card with a SD Card adapter for my laptop.

    ==The software==

    ==The ROM==

    Optional: Download the Google Apps for the device.

    Other ROM to consider.

    MIUI Nook Color ROM

    ==The Steps to ROOT==
    • The Nook should be OFF and NOT connected to the PC.
    • Burn IMG Clockwork Recovery Mod to your SD card using WinImage.
    • Copy the ROM to the SD card and rename the ZIP file to "phiremod-nook-v7.1-stable.zip". This should be on the SD card root directory and not in a sub-directory.
    • Copy the "update-cm-7.1.0-encore-signed.zip" file to the SD card. Again non in a sub directory.
    • Place the SD card in the nook and power it on.

    It will boot to the Recovery mode. Use the "volume" buttons to navigate. The "n" button for select and the "power" button for back.

    • Press up or down volume button until "mounts and storage" is highlighted, press "n" button.
    • Use up/down to highlight "format /system", press "n"
    • When that finishes, highlight "format /data", press "n"
    • Press power button briefly to return to previous menu
    • Select "install zip from sdcard", press "n"
    • Select "choose zip from sdcard", press "n"
    • Select update-cm-7.1.0-encore-signed.zip, press "n"
    • When it finishes (about 5 minutes), select "reboot system now", press "n"

    When the flash is complete apply the gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip update.

    • Press up or down volume button until "mounts and storage" is highlighted, press "n" button.
    • Select "install zip from sdcard", press "n"
    • Select "choose zip from sdcard", press "n"
    • Select gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip, press "n"
    • When it finishes (it's fast this time), select "reboot system now", press "n"

    Make sure you remove this SD card otherwise you will be suck in recovery...

    If you have any issues flash the updates again with a small change...

    • mounts menu: format system, format data, format cache
    • advanced menu: clear Dalvik cache
    • flash CyanogenMod.
    • flash gApps
    • advanced menu: fix permissions
      reboot

    If you get a lot of Force Close issues, you may need to Install the ClockWork Recovery from the ROM Manager that comes with CyanogenMod. Then you can run the above "fix". You can also run the Fix Permissions from the ROM Manager.

    Good luck.
