Nook Color v. Streak 7 - What to do first on Nook?

I just bought a Nook Color for the express purpose of rooting it and converting it to either Gingerbreak or Honeycomb. I did this because I currently have a Dell Streak 7 which I like a lot, but the screen resolution is starting to wear on my eyes.

My question is where do I start with this conversion of the Nook? I know there are SD cards that are plug and play but I want to run it directly from the internal storage. If there are specific GOOD threads, a link would be appreciated. I did read that a few people have had glitches running HC, so that would be killer since I hate the phone-based Android OS, meaning the Streak will be the winner since it has already been upgraded to HC.

Check out the Nook Color threads, you can make a bootable clockworkmod sd card, then flash whatever you want.

Thanks for the info. I've been playing with it for the past few hours and the screen is WAY better than the Streak but the B&N OS is way too limiting. It seems to run video fairly well from SD but the sound isnt as good as the Dell.

After rooting, one of the first things to download from the market is Nook Tweaks. There is an option to increase sound levels, but be careful not to set it too high, or you'll blow the speaker. Stock, the sound is ridiculously low.

Well I spent a week playing around with the Color but it's going back. First I tried using Honeycomb on a SD card and like advertised it is not ready for prime time. Next I played around with CM7 running from a SD card and while it was easy to load and worked as advertised, it was just a little too slow using it as a "true" tablet. Plus I began to miss the advantages of having the B&N modified OS. So I tried the ManualNooter. Again, it was straight forward and easy to set up and while better speed than CM7, it was still a little too slow, especially compared to my Dell Streak 7, but it was a much better e-reader than the DS7 due to the great screen. Of the two, CM7 v. ManualNooter, IMO, MN is definitely the way to go and will satisfy anyone who only wants occasional web use.

I will say again that the screen is MUCH better than the DS7, so much so that I thought about keeping both; using the Color for reading and the DS7 for web surfing. Instead, I went and bought the new Tablet! I'm setting it up now and if the web speed is even close to the DS7, that's going to be my route.

If you're up for it, a review would be cool :-)

CheapGuy, Try the Miui.us MIUI port for the Nook Color. Honestly especially with Nook Tweaks upping the max CPU to 1300 Mhz, it runs really smooth, especially with ADW Launcher Ex as my default Launcher.

CM7 is alright but its a bit bland to me.
