[KK-ROM] OMNI ROM Android 4.4.4 KitKat for ADAM [2014-09-18] [WIP]

This is a port of OMNI ROM based on KitKat for the ADAM. See official omnirom web site for more details.

Just as the other Android 4.4.x ROMs there is some initial freezing during setup, but gets smoother later.

3G is included, but am unable to test since I have Wifi only version.

You will need the latest ClockworkMod Recovery 6.0.4.7 to install this ROM and may have to increase system size if installing full Google Apps package. If this is your first time installing a KitKat ROM you should download full NVFLASH Katkiss 4.4 package before trying to flash this ROM to increase the size of your system partition:
[KK-ROM] KatKiss Android 4.4 KitKat ROM for ADAM [WIP]

    Install Instructions for Windows

Flash a New Recovery Image ( download CWM 6.0.4.7 )

    1. Find the recovery image you want and MAKE SURE IT IS FOR YOUR PHONE (should say in where you download it what phone it is for).
    2. Write down the filename of the recovery image EXACTLY as it is written (you can copy the details from inside a file manager too)
    3. Put the recovery image file on the SD card
    4. Download Terminal from the Market if you donít already have it and install it (there are a few different terminals in the Market some have an onscreen keyboard and some donít experiment till you get one, also hold down Menu in some of them to bring up the onscreen keyboard if you donít see it).
    5. Open the Terminal program and type the following (with hitting enter at the end of each line):
    su
    flash_image recovery /sdcard/name-of-recovery.img
    6. In the above text, replace name-of-recovery.img with the name of your recovery image (make sure the .img is on the end).
    7. Phone should pause for a second and then show you a new blank line. Turn it off and back on by holding down Home and Power to ensure it flashed correctly. Done.

Alternate way to install recovery image via Windows:

1a. Download from links below the ROM, any updated boot.img, google apps if needed, SuperSU if you need root, and ClockWorkMod.
    2a. Extract ClockWorkMod recovery zip.
3a. Connect Adam via usb to computer.
4a. Set Adam to nvflash recovery mode by holding Volume - and power on.
5a. Goto driver manager in Windows and you should see some APX device, and right click on update the driver for this device.
6a. Set Browse driver to Drivers/Driver32-bit/ and install.
7a. run "flashrecovery.bat recovery.img" in command line and wait till it finished flashing or drag recovery.img onto flashrecovery.bat.

Install Instructions for ROM ZIP package:

    1. Download from ROM ZIP, Google Apps, and SuperSU if root needed from the links below to your Adam.
    2. You must use ClockWorkMod Recovery 6.0.4.7 (Version is important), if you don't have this version you should download and install with NVFLASH package first.
    2. Power on Adam while holding Volume + to enter recovery mode.
    2. Select "Wipe data/factory reset" and then "Yes - wipe all user data".
    3. Select "Mounts and storage" and then "format /system" and then "Yes - format".
    4. Select "Install zip" and then "choose zip from [location where you downloaded ROM ZIP]" and then select ROM.zip and then "Yes - Install ROM.zip".
    5. Select "reboot system now".
    6. Install Google apps.zip if needed.
    7. Install SuperSU.zip if need root access.
    8. If you don't need to update boot.img skip to step 11, reboot while holding volume - to go into nvflash recovery again.
    9. Copy downloaded boot.img into your nvflash directory.
    10. Run "flashboot.bat boot.img" in command line.
    11. Restart after it is finished flashing and you will boot into your new Kitkat ROM.

How to obtain adam logs to report problems

    [2014-09-18]:
    Update to Android 4.4.4
    Back to using 3.1.10 kernel
Camera should work a little better, but captured images may be split in half UPDATE: copy /system/lib/hw/tegra.camera.so from older ROM as it is missing in this version, also try SVGA or smaller resolution may result in better captured images
USB should work if unplugged once with some delay thanks to ri9000 UPDATE: still needs some work

    [2014-06-09]:
    Update to Android 4.4.3
    Using 2.6.39 kernel from CM10.1
Bluetooth may be unstable and cycle on and off
Overclocking should be working in this kernel now
    Netflix should now work
USB should be more stable with this kernel
Camera is not working with this kernel

    Beta 6 - [2014-04-10]:
Heart Beat OpenSSL vulnerability is now patched
    GPS is working
Camera somewhat better without green lines
MultiWindow support is not included due to problems retrieving it

    Beta 5:
HD accelerated video playback now working
Added MultiWindow support, just long press on app icon in app switch view and select "Put aside". It is still a work in progress so it may not work perfectly yet.
Flashing zip file should now update boot.img.
Testing some optimizations UI and memory card, let me know how it goes.

    Beta 4.2:
Attempt to fix encryption and boot issues

    Beta 4. 4.1:
More changes to fix boot issues

    Beta 3:
Should be booting on all adams now (hopefully) with SELinux policy changes made
Camera not a mirror image anymore

    Beta 2:
Sleep should now be a deep sleep with no lockup (hopefully)
Camera now correct orientation (have found an official Huawei driver for our camera and comparing it to Borkata's current driver)

    Beta 1:
    HDMI Output with sound
    Pixel Qi mode
    GPS
    Wifi
    Bluetooth A2DP
Internal and External SD and USB mounting
root access works with SuperSU with prompts
Sleep mode workaround included (uses about 13% power in 8 hours on my Adam, not the best but at least it won't require reset)
    Plus more...

    Credits
Borkata for making such an excellent kernel and CM ports and help with problems

    ri9000 for improving usb functionality

OMNI ROM developers for providing a working and fairly stable KitKat ROM

For me, this ROM will not boot. The boot-up sequence stalls (forever) while displaying the omni animation.
    [p.s. Should /mnt/shell/emulated lead nowhere?]

I can have a look if you can upload your logs from /data/aplog and /data/dmsg in recovery mode using adb. /mnt/shell/emulated is the internal storage which is linked to /storage/emulated/ and /storage/emulated/legacy or /storage/sdcard0 where you would normally access it from.

What I installed was build omni-4.4.2-20140209-adam_3g-HOMEMADE.zip (173884086 bytes). There is no '/data/aplog' nor '/data/dmsg'.
The reason I mentioned /mnt/shell/emulated is that it is NOT linked to anyplace - it's just an empty stub.

    .
From today, via adb against regular (unsuccessful) boot: dmesg http://pastebin.com/pNzjduBP , logcat http://pastebin.com/HSVJqGLb . { From yesterday, a last_kmsg that I happened to see http://pastebin.com/RgeWV4sN }.

Hopefully beta 2 now on first page will work better for you, may have been a build issue because those security issues should have been fixed already.

    Hi Tenchi,

I seem to have the same problem as Mikus...

Downloaded BETA 2 above + GAPPS + SuperSU

"For me, this ROM will not boot. The boot-up sequence stalls (forever) while displaying the omni animation."

I left it overnight in case simply lagging but still on the animated OMNI boot screen...

Install process I followed using CM 6.0.4.7.

    Power the device off
Place the microSD card in the Adam if it's not already there containing the 3 files provided in the FIRST POST then power back on while holding the Volume+ button.
    Wipe data three times
    Wipe the cache three times
    Format the cache
    Format the data
    Format the sdcard (NOT sdcard-ext!)
    Format the and system
    DO NOT format Boot
Install the ROM of your choice from the external microSD
    Install SuperSU
    Install GAPPS
    Wipe data three times
    Wipe the cache three times
    Wipe the Dalvik cache
Return to the top level menu and reboot the Adam

    STUCK!

Life in the old dog yet!!

Still prefer my Adam to my iPad mini (simply because I can f#@k about with the Adam much more than the iPad

Look forward to seeing the fix to the above...

I'm running a 3G model - and it simply stays on the animated OMNI logo screen forever??

I have tried booting with the external SD Card inserted and removed

I have also tried booting with the SIMCARD inserted and removed

and the combinations of both above with no success??

Would any other information be of help to you?

You mention that 'you may have to increase system size to allow full GAPPS install' - how do you do this??

    Many thanks...
