    Unusual Bricking

    Hi Folks.

I recently updated my Adam from adamcomb v0.3 to ICS CM9-ADAM-BETA-AIO, and then on to the Beta 4ish version, following the recommended flashing procedure. Everything seemed fine, and I was impressed that my bluetooth keyboard now worked, when it hadn't on HC. Unfortunately, I couldn't install gapps, and get most of my apps back yet, as I'd done all this without my micro-sdcard, which I had left elsewhere. After switching the Adam off, I came back to it the next day to find it would not boot. The screen will briefly turn on, then off again, while the side-lights will turn on to steady orange and red. No combination of power-cycling, pushing the recessed reset button, or holding any keys while trying to boot will cause any other outcome. To all appearances, it appears to boot straight to recovery mode, normally accessed by booting while holding the Vol - button.

When plugged into my computer, the computer recognises it as an APX device, and i'm able to re-flash the ICS CM9-ADAM-BETA-AIO rom. However, after the flash (which appears to run successfully), the Adam remains in recovery mode, and I still can't boot into anything else. I've also tried flashing the NI stock recovery rom, and had exactly the same result.

I don't suppose any of you folks have some bright ideas, as to how to I can fix this? I've flashed a number of roms in the past now, and I've never had anything like this happen before.

hmmmm.......sounds to me like the volume rocker is stuck. Does it feel like it moves freely?

The volume key appears to move freely, and i can feel the microswitches close and open as i press and release. Any false VOL - signal would have to be due to an internal short, rather than a stuck switch.

Could try letting the battery drain all the way down, and hope that something resets itself when you plug in the charger. Not a very active solution, but if nothing else works, worth a shot.

I would definitely try draining the battery. Also have you put the micro sd back in.

I've tried booting both with the micro-sd both in and out. Neither makes a difference.

Well so far, it looks as though my only option is to let the battery run dry, which I'm presently trying. Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What about the pin in the reset hole?

It is better to know some of the questions than all of the answers.

As I mentioned in the original post, pushing the recessed reset switch simply resets into recovery mode.

My Adam has now been on for 12 hours, and the lights are still on. I'm guessing recovery mode uses little power, so I will be waiting some time.

All you have to do is push the reset button on the motherboard:-) BUT you have to open the Adam to do it.
