    Camera work around

First let me make perfectly clear that this is my way of having some fun :-)

to fix our adam non functioning camera you need to follow these steps:

    preparation:
you need an android phone, rooted with wifi
    maybe some tape

    set your phone as wifi-hotspot.

connect your adam to this wifi hotspot (
if both are on the same wifi-network, you can skip this step, but i think you will want to take your camera outside, where wifi coverage is not available)

open google play on your android phone and download IP webcam
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...com.pas.webcam

install, and set some options. they are self-explanatory.
on the bottom press start server.
    your phone is now set.

take your adam and download ip cam viewer basic (or lite they seem the same)
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...d2VyQmFzaWMiXQ..

any other ipcam software will do, but i tried this one. it has options to turn your flash on and off, and autofocus.
play around with this software until you find the manage camera tab.
add a new camera, and choose :
    Make: android
    model: ip webcam for android

if you have connected thru wifi hotspot your ip should be 95.99.118.92 or something similar.
you can find this on the bottom of the live camera view on your phone.
in a wifi-router lan this will probable be 192.168.1.6 or similar (the 6 might change)

    set as port 8080

save your settings, and press the back button.

have fun with your adam camera. press the ptz button for options.

Why do you need the tape? if you want you can now tape your phone to the back of your adam for the complete camera on adam experience.

    How to improve? some suggestions:
write an android os for your phone that just starts the hotspot and camera, and fix this permanently to your adam.
connect a usb cable to charge your phone to one of your ports. you can now also use this as external storage (incorparate this into your OS)

to further improve: remove the casing and screen from your phone. open your adam, drill some holes in the back and stick the phone to the inside. connect the power to the adam powerbutton.

I hope you like this workaround.

    Love it !

It is better to know some of the questions than all of the answers.

This workaround won't void the warranty will it?

    Depends what tape you use!

Guys, I did a little checking around and found that in order for this workaround NOT to void the warranty and be sucessfull, you have to use a polyethylene, reinforced, multi-purpose pressure sensitive tape with a soft and flexible shell and pressure sensitive adhesive. I guess they had some issues with some people trying this workaround with plain old scotch tape and the frequency resonance of the tape, presumably because of its transparent nature, was presumed to have contributed to a slight harmonics imbalance resulting in the camera capturing a blurred image. At first I suspected that most of the incidents involving scotch tape were a result of the tape being placed over the lens of the camera. I thought that only an idiot would be stupid enough to place the tape directly over the lens...until I tried it and sure enough, I was able to replicate the results. Of course, I accidentally left a piece of tape on the lens...but alas I digress. So the key to making this workaround successful is the tape! Something about the polyethylene redirects the gravimetric pull away from the lens and the pressure sensitive adhesive apparently has to be rated between 1 to 3 lbf. I know that it seems funny to be so specific in the tape requirements, but believe me, if you try and use a tape that is rated higher than 3 lbf, you will end up with "incompatibility" issues. In my case I was apparently using a tape rated between 25 and 30 lbf, which I found out was a little too " pressure sensitive" and left me quite frustrated. Anyhow, I finally succeeded with the workaround and now I am trying to figure out why my camera is stuck in night mode. I will provide updates as I progress.

As stated you shouldn't have the harmonics imbalance .... so it just might

Well, on a more serious note, if we could have video4linux (v4l) support in the kernel, we could use generic webcams, such as the low profile ones you can stick on your laptop, on the Adam. It has a sufficient number of USB ports to allow this. It would require some taping and fixing, but it would be aesthetically more pleasing than a whole phone being stuck to the Adam.
