this looks promising, as Ive been googling voice support for Huawei em820u,

Activating Voice Calling on Huawei HSPA modems

looks like DCunlocking says they can enable voice, i didnt see our model listed but says hspa+ huawei modems, and was listed in google results..

actually latest unlocking software build has the em820u listed as compatible..

DJSteve, do you think voice feature is disabled on the modem? or another modem/android issue?

emailed the guy at DCUnlocking, will post any news..

have a go at this free beta software post.. involves sending AT commands..

It looks like most are for air/data cards, but involve IMEi's, I think it still may possibly work.

Im ok as long as i get voip/sip set up and voicemail..

Enabling voice would be just to kick Tmo/Dell in the nuts, for hacking sake..

all great but afaik we cant get the modem in the 7 into ftm download mode or passthrough the usb ttys to allow this to work - may have to look at a custom kernel to do that methinks - back to 2.2 i go

so the manager @ DC-Unlocking says his software can not do anything for us. his software changelog says as of June 06, em820u is supported, it could well be an air/data card, but I think they would be very similar. I emailed him back asking if he or his partner would be interested in either helping us to enable it, or where we could find more information to help us.

One thing this might bring eventually, is circuit switched/ packet switched (simulatneous voice/data) e.g. ATT,

I'll research a bit more later when I have time, and keep you posted..

we need to find out how to interface the streak7's modem with a pc, at moment it cant be done so the software wont see it or be able to do anything with it (needs a usb connection to unlock it also) - also assuming the wifi 7 has a similar board layout to the 4g it may be able to add a 3g/4g modem to it via what appears to be a mini-pci-e connector on the board - see here : http://www.tinhte.vn/tin-tuc-danh-gi...ak-7-a-569377/ the last pic shows the slot, and the first frame of the video appears to show that its got a nice empty area around where it is

got this email today:

First try to find firmware that supports voice for this module, then try to activate it by dc-unlocker. If huawei modem is supported by dc-unlocker and there is firmware update that supports ti, then you should be able to activate it.

doesnt tell us much, Im sure English is not his native language, and he must not have checked specifically for this voive enabled firmware in his software, just a general response, "if we support your modem and it has the voice enable firmware, then we should be able to.." Maybe he just wants us to purchase it and find out..

anyways, I say try it out DJ if you get USB talking.. iwhen you do, we could then run some AT /DIAG commands.. i think its like 1-3 lines of code to enable voice.. save/pull to cpu and create new firmware.. I have high hopes and faith..
