    *GUIDE* installing alpha 4 - update 4

Flashing fards alpha 4 update 4 appears to be causing a lot of people a lot of hassle. The official thread is getting rather long now and the different methods of installing it are getting lost. I've created this thread to for people to share there SUCCESSFUL METHODS for installing the update.

Anyway, here's mine. Dubbed the stock recovery method.
This method uses the stock recovery instead of CWM.

    NVFLASH the 53 partitions

    Install stock rom through recovery
Install stock rom again using stock recovery (as an update.zip)
Boot tablet and check everything's OK. Sign into Google, dl some apps

    Flash alpha4 (as an update.zip)
Boot (don't factory reset) for me everything worked fine.

Flash update 1 (as an update.zip)
Boot and don't factory reset. booted fine for me

Flash update 4 (as an update.zip)
Boot again and don't factory reset.
    Booted fine for me

Reboot into recovery and factory reset.
    Boot again.

This method appears to have a good success rate, it is ether due to the double flash of the stock Tom or using the stock recovery. If you have a PC handy its best to load the updates one at a time onto the external SD card as it does get confusing with so many update.zip files.
    Thanks and good luck!

as mentioned in the alpha 4 thread.

    - Doesn't work for all of us
    - Superuser isn't working
    - fard's isn't sure if this method applies the update correctly (or at all)

So it isn't the solution. We just have to wait for another alpha/update, and hope that fards comes up with some magic again

when I made this thread I knew that superuser wasn't working (which I don't see as a biggie) but I was unaware that fards had doubts that it was installing properly (as I said in the other thread).

I never stated this was THE solution. merely that it appears to have a good success rate and welcome people to post alternative solutions.

also, as I said in the other thread. If fards sees fit, he can delete this thread anyways. no harm, no foul.

I know my post was meant for new users, who didn't read through the 40+ pages of the alpha 4 thread :-)

Excellent! could I ask what stock image you used? was it direct from hannspree, my mega upload mirror which is obviously broke now or the pre rooted one I posted a few days ago?

after installing this way how much memory(not storage space) do you have? you can find out via a system info app.

    Hello,

is the output from cat /proc/meminfo not enough? or is it the false way to check how much mem we got?

    this works perfectly for me

    1. flash fards backup and then dirctly the stock rom
    2. after booting the stock flash the CWM 5 and do a factory reset
    3. enable script asserts install zip from sdcard-->toggle script asserts
    4. flash the alpha 4 and the updates 1 and 4 at once
    5. ICS is booting fine and it works very good for me.

but one problem the cap-keys do not working after standby
