    Onda VI40 V3 vanilla 1.1 firmware

    Ok people,

After doing a lot of reading and a lot of trial and error i decided to give this firmware unpacking, modifying and re packing lark a try. I'm a IT guy with no experience of linux so i threw myself in the deep end a bit. I'm not a developer just a geek who likes challenges. I used some custom written tools plus ext4_utils and simg2img and of course Ubuntu 12.04.

I've taken the Onda stock 1.1 ICS firmware and stripped it down for everyone to do with it as they please.

As with others i couldnt get the ext4 image back into sparse and get it to work so it'll have to stay as ext4 and /system will have to be a little bigger but it works.

The second buildprop in bootloader was fun too NOT... kept wondering why everything wasnt staying english so quickly!

    Changes
    • Language set to English
    • Locale set to Europe/London
    • Chinese apps removed
    • CWM installed and novotools 7 APM (thanks to genolokar) to allow you to boot into recovery (although the hard buttons are a bit off until i can figure out how to change them. power is select, menu is down, home is up and back is back)
    • Market fix
    • Red border fix
    • Busybox installed (if prompted please install to /system/bin NOT /system/xbin/ as this is believed to casue issues.
    • Gmail
    • Kingsoft Office
    • Maps
    • Nav
    • Play music
    • Root explorer
    • Superuser
    • Youtube
    • Asus weather widget
I've tested this on my VI40 with no issues but i'd like to stress this is my first attempt at this so use at your own risk.

Next i need to figure out APKTools to take this all further. I'd like to get the advanced power menu in natively but thats way off yet...

Extract the .img from the.zip and just install in the normal way with livesuit (power off then hold power for 2 secs then hit power 6 times)

    Any feedback would be great.

For anyone interested in having voice search for my rom... here is a flashable CWM zip for you.

Just download the .zip file and move it onto your sd card.

Use novo7tools to boot into recovery.

    goto install zip from sdcard

    choose zip from sdcard

    voice-search.zip

    Enjoy.

If you know the file then use root explorer to copy it onto your sdcard then onto the computer.

I'm using an ONDA Vi40 and wondered whether you had used the V1 or V3 1.1 firmware as your base, as the onda.cn site shows a different download for each? Reading elsewhere suggests that the firmware compatibility is version dependent.

    Thanks in advance
