Pixel-Qi display & touchscreen in netbook

    Hi guys!

I am a (not so) proud owner of the Adam with Pixel-Qi display since pre-order 2.5. I've been silently reading all the forums concerning the Adam, searching for a miraculous Rom or development to make this tablet usable.

I'm done searching! I give up!

WiFi sucks big time, though 3G reception is OK. There is either an incredible battery drain in sleep or the sleep of death. I can't use this device properly for university purposes, which I bought it for in the first place.

Long story short: I want to use the Pixel-Qi display with a netbook. There is a DIY Pixel-Qi display to buy online which has already been successfully installed in different netbooks. (Make - Pixel Qi)
I'm pretty positive that the display module including backlight and connectors used in the Adam is the same as the DIY module. So it should be possible to change the display from Adam to a compatible netbook. Which puzzles me is the touchscreen of the Adam. Is it possible to use the touchscreen of Adam with a netbook? Does anybody know which connector the touchscreen uses? And if that connector can be connected with standard connectors found on a netbook mainboard?

I don't have yet a potential netbook so I can't check it out myself if it would work.

Thanks very much in advance for you input!

    Lightbulb

Some time ago I did a complete hardware component break-down of the Adam.

The LCD interface is LVDS so it should work with any LVDS controller.

The touchscreen uses two Tango S32 controllers slaved to an Atmel ATMEGA168PA microcontroller. You'd need to interface to that to use the touchscreen; maybe connect it via a custom USB slave device. The biggest problem would be integrating the touch-screen surface into another device so on balance it'd be best just not to bother with touch at all.

Thank you IntuitiveNipple for your detailed answer.

You're right, it's too much of a hassle to get display and touchscreen to work in a netbook.

I solved the problem by buying a Transformer Prime which has enough brightness (600 nits) to use it outdoors as well.
My Adam is gonna get sold via ebay this Sunday...

I just installed the pixel Qi into a Acer Aspire one netbook without a hitch. Since you see the pixel Qi panel in its native form and not through a layer of glass like in the adam it doesn't look bad at all on a netbook. It is a straight forward swap and done in 20 minutes. Finally found a use for the spare broken adam which had the broken touchscreen.
