[WIP] Honeycomb kernel (nv-tegra 2.6.36.3) for ADAM

    Hey..
I've been messing around with getting this running for a while and finally got somewhere..
It boots and some hardware works, but it's nowhere near stable yet!
IMPORTANT: Because this is a WIP kernel, don't expect it to be stable. Also, because it's a kernel, it touches hardware at a very low level. This means, I can't give any guarantees it won't break you adam permanently! Mine still works fine though...

    https://github.com/EnJens/android-tegra-2.6.36-adam

    Status:
    Works:
    • NAND
    • Internal SD/eMMC
    • USB Host
    • USB Device
    • hardware buttons (vol up/down, power, back button)
    • 3G (untested, but devices show up correctly)

External SD crashes kernel currently, so if you try this, take it out first. Working on a fix.

Wifi kind of works. Module loads, but scanning fails. Possible needs newer firmware to match driver...

Anything not mentioned is either not tested or needs a driver to be ported. Porting drivers takes time so feel free to chip in if you have the skills!

Currently there is another issue with android stuff crashing randomly, so it's not quite useful yet! I'm sure this can be fixed with some work

There is a chance that graphics will work with HC binaries (e.g. from Asus Transformer or Acer Iconia) once things stop crashing

    Enjoy!

In kernel, it is set as performance..Here is my git for 2.6.32, none for 2.6.36 yet

Please forgive me if this is a stupid question, but will this kernel work unmodified on a Viewsonic G-Tablet, or is there a guide somewhere to the differences between the two devices?

Most of the current kernels work pretty much as is on the Gtab with the exception of the volume rocker being upside down and maybe a couple of other small issues. It certainly shouldn't hurt to give it a try.

Do you have a Gtab now? Did you give up on the Novel?

This kernel will probably need some changes to work on gtab. Previous kernels received a lot of information from the bootloader. In the new kernel this information is now hardcoded in the kernel. This includes memory timings, clock speeds and nand setup at the very least.

So is what you have been working on not based on 1.2 then? roebeet has shown that the current kernels work on the Gtab with minor modifications.

Yep, I have a Gtab. I haven't actually given up on the Novel, but as I explained on SlateDroid, the backlight on my Novel is busted (or at least very dim) and it's not very useful when you can't see the screen

I've had useful suggestions, but I haven't managed to even identify whether it's a software or a hardware problem.

In any case, I'm more interested in playing with software than hardware. I'm on a ginormous learning curve at the moment, getting my head around versions of the kernel, of Android, and of nvidia's blobs. Ultimately I'd like to get a really solid and fully-accelerated gingerbread build: honeycomb doesn't interest me so much due to the source code not being available.

I'll search some more for roebeet's info about the differences between Adam and Gtab. Thanks for the pointer.

If anyone wants to help, please help filling in this:
    http://tabletroms.com/forums/showwik...re_Information

Basically the way to do it, is choose a hardware device and try to track it in the kernel at http://github.com/notionink and then post the information in comments on the page linked above.. In particular GPIO numbers and i2c addresses.

Helping with this will help speedup porting drivers to 2.6.36! It doesn't require much knowledge of C to help with this, so if you can, please help!
